  • In an exchange with Mehdi Hasan, Uwe Boll defended his horrific anti-Muslim film Citizen Vigilante.
  • MEND filed a complaint to Ofcom arguing that they failed to act against a film containing “Islamophobic tropes” that has “fuelled anti-Muslim hatred” at a time of heightened risk to Muslim and migrant communities.

With a 94% Rotten Tomatoes audience score, a first place ranking for the most watched film on Amazon Prime, and the second most purchased film on Apple TV, the Islamophobic and xenophobic Citizen Vigilante is quite simply a film that cannot be ignored. Believe me, I tried.

On a recent episode of Piers Morgan Uncensored, Mehdi Hasan challenged the German filmmaker Uwe Boll over his hate-filled production.

To open the discussion, Boll attempted to paper over the actual issues of the film, “There’s too much wokeism, violent films like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull can no longer be made,” he said.

Hasan made it clear that he wasn’t interested in dissecting the artistic value of the film. Although, it’s important to mention (as Hasan rightfully did) that Boll is frequently described as “the world’s worst director.” This is cemented by the very dialogue of the film: brittle, unconvincing and steeped in anti- Muslim ideology.

“There are attacks on Muslims everyday…it’s just incitement!” Mehdi said.

Boll, incapable of even feigning any care, and with unsubstantiated claims, replied, “There are more crimes being committed by migrants.”

During the segment instead, he retreated to the cliche defence, “I have muslim friends.”

“It’s a fictional movie, my film is about criminals, not Muslims,” Boll said.

“You said it’s not about Islam, it very much is. Why would you include dialogue where the father of the rapist is using dialogue in the film which are verses from the Qur’an to justify the rape?”

The film maker was unable to provide a reply.

This is a clear distortion of the holy Qur’an; the sacred scripture followed and believed by more than two billion Muslims worldwide to be the unaltered and preserved word of God.

Astonishingly, in the comments section of Piers Morgan uncensored, Boll receives significant support and praise for his film.

Citizen Vigilante was not granted an age rating in Germany, meaning it cannot be legally distributed in cinemas or sold through most retail channels. However, it was made accessible to a wide audience on X for a two-day period after Elon Musk, who continues to fuel race riots, provided free access. It was viewed by numerous users.

The film’s protagonist, Michal Sanders is played by Armie Hammer. Hammer has faced accusations of sexual misconduct, emotional abuse, and rape from multiple women, as well as claims of having cannibalistic fetishes.

Ironically, the film is set in Croatia where only 26 homicides were reported in 2023. Furthermore, during the 1990s, the wealthy European class would pay Croats and Serbs to murder Bosniaks for entertainment purposes.

For those of you who haven’t seen the film, the protagonist Sanders is a wealthy American landlord living in Europe; a Caucasian hero who spearheads a campaign of illegal and abhorrent executions of brown people, after a series of crimes are committed by muslims. The film renders muslims and brown people as criminals who are responsible for the collapse of Europe while portraying vigilantism by white people as a heroic response.

In the film, migrants bring an “archaic value system”. European civilisation is “falling apart and dying”. Sanders warns a police officer that unless politicians stop the migrant “takeover”, “we the people will end it ourselves.”

The film concludes with Sanders having killed judges and police officers he views as complicit in the system. It escalates toward a harrowing final sequence: the execution of an entire Muslim migrant family — a husband, wife, son, and daughter carried out in cold blood. Sanders claims justification on the grounds that the son committed rape and that the family protected him.

Since the release of the film, MEND (Muslim Engagement and Development), an NGO which campaigns against Islamophobia with the UK, have submitted a complaint to media regulator, Ofcom over billionaire Elon Musk’s promotion on X. In its letter, it questions why Ofcom have not taken regulatory action over X for a film which contains ‘Islamophobic tropes’ and has ‘fuelled anti-Muslim hatred’

MEND drew attention to the fact that under the UK’s 2023 Online Safety Act, the regulator is able to take action against the stirring up of racial and religious hatred.

In relation to Elon Musk’s promotion of the film, they penned the following response:

“The concern is sharpened by the identity of the disseminator: the content was not posted by an anonymous user evading moderation, but boosted by the platform’s own owner,” the complaint stated, referring to Musk. “Which raises the question of whether the platform’s safety systems operate effectively, consistently and without preferential treatment.”

MEND added that the film disseminated on the masses during a time of heightened risk for Muslim and migrant minority communities, particularly after mosques, migrants and muslims were attacked in Belfast and Scotland last month.

For those who continue to insist that this is just a film: the baseless Great Replacement theory was promoted by far-right knuckleheads online. It inspired terrorists not only in Scotland and Ireland but also in Christchurch and in New York. Furthermore, anti-Muslim dehumanisation in film and social media posts have been linked to mosque attacks and Islamophobic hate crimes in San Diego.
