  • British content creator Joe Collins says he feels safer in Muslim social settings with alcohol-free environments, compared to pubs and nightclubs.
  • The impact of alcohol-related harm is considerable, with the UK recording a record 10,473 deaths.

British content creator Joe Collins has opened up about why he feels most secure in Muslim social settings, citing the UK’s often tense drinking culture as a key factor.

Collins explained that alcohol-centred environments can frequently escalate into conflict, creating situations that feel unsafe, ie in pubs and nightclubs. In contrast, he finds that Muslim social spaces tend to offer a calmer, more controlled atmosphere, allowing him to feel at ease.

His concerns about alcohol-related tension in the UK come at a time when ONS data earlier this year reported how alcohol-related deaths in UK hit a record high of 10,473.

In a study conducted at the University of Oxford, titled ‘The Drunken Bum Theory of Domestic Violence,’ data was collated from 6,002 households. The study posits that alcohol consumption contributes substantially to wife beating. It concludes that male perpetrators of domestic violence often blame their actions on being intoxicated, framing it as a situational rather than a habitual issue.

A 2023 study reported how 40% of the cost of binge drinking is paid by the federal state and local governments in the USA. These include: loss of workplace productivity. Healthcare costs, and car crashes. $28 billion is spent each year on alcohol-related health care; The criminal justice system is $25 billion. Furthermore, children with an alcoholic parent are more likely to experience psychological problems.
