Since October 7th, female Israeli soldiers have avoided conscription at the observation control base near the Gaza border.

Service in the IDF is mandatory for both men and women starting at the age of 18.

Israeli TV7 reported that a significant number of female Israeli soldiers declined to participate in observation training with the “border control observation unit” at a military base near the border between Gaza and the ’48 occupied territories.

According to the news channel, nearly half of the 346 soldiers initially refused to be transported to the training base. The Israeli military had previously stated that 116 conscripts, amounting to approximately 30% of all drafted female soldiers, had refused the assignment.
As a result, the IOF will either transport them to the detention facility at the “Tel Hashomer” base or assign them to alternative positions and duties.

The unit’s responsibilities include monitoring surveillance cameras along the border between Gaza and the ’48 occupied territories and deploying forces to potential incident sites.
With multiple command centers in various military sites along the border, the unit primarily consists of female soldiers.
