● After South Africa, Nicaragua is targeting Germany for its role in the current genocide in Gaza

● Why is Nicaragua suing Germany and what are the implications of such a case?

South Africa already took Israel to International court for genocide in Gaza. This time Nicaragua is taking Germany to court.

We have already seen how Germany is giving unconditional political, financial, and military support to Israel.

Germany has suspended its funding of the UN Palestinian Refugee Agency or UNRWA causing even more hardship to the Palestinian civilians.  Germany is claiming that UNRWA has been housing members of Hamas, as well as their infrastructures such as servers and IT equipment.

Daniel Muller who represents Nicaragua at the ICJ, listed the important military aid provided by Germany to the Zionist entity which comprises of export licenses for weapons of war in the value of 20 million euros such as 3,000 anti-tank weapons but also, vehicles, structures, buildings, 500,000 rounds of machine gun ammunitions, 44 propellant charges and 239 ignition charges. Thanks to Germany among other Western nations, Israel has everything it needs to annihilate the Palestinian civilian population without having to make too much effort.

Unlike the US, Germany has accepted the jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) as compulsory. This acceptance might explain why Nicaragua did not target the US, which is a major supporter of the Zionist entity.y. Also, Germany has forbidden itself from even questioning the Zionist entity on its actions, in fear of being labelled anti-Semitic. This concern can easily be explained by the Nazi episode in German history, which has made millions of deaths, based on a racist ideology.

It seems that Germany keeps choosing the wrong side of history and Nicaragua wants to hold it accountable.

However, the German population is divided on the question and a petition signed anonymously by hundreds of civil servants in Germany is asking the government to reconsider its relationship towards the Zionist entity, in the wake of the current humanitarian disaster taking place in Gaza. The fear of speaking out is still very strong since the signatories all hide behind the shield of anonymity.

More and more of those petitions, throughout European countries have also surfaced.

Nicaragua has very strong ties with the Palestinian entity. The previous Somoza regime was a strong supporter of the Zionist entity and was a brutal dictatorship that left the country in ruins.

The current regime on the other hand received past support from the Palestinians and wants to show its support today by condemning the genocide in Gaza.

The Sandinista National Liberation Front represented today by President Daniel Ortega has already dragged the US in front of the International Court of Justice in 1986, for supporting the rebels.

Nicaragua is hoping to force Germany to take emergency measures, stop its financial and military support, and help the Palestinian people get safely the humanitarian aid they desperately need.

International lawyers are not sure about the outcome of this lawsuit. Some say that Israel is not a part of it and therefore, it is unlikely Germany will be condemned. Others explain that before Germany can be condemned for its complicity in the genocide, the ICJ needs to determine first, whether this is a genocide taking place right now in Gaza or not.

However, Nicaragua is using the International Court of Justice because it was precisely created after WW2 and the Holocaust, in order to prevent a repeat of this very dark part of history, a part that we can see right now being tragically played again in Gaza and the rest of the Palestinian territories.
