● European Muslim Political parties are trying to give a voice to the Palestinian cause in the next European elections, due on June 9th.
● What do they request on behalf of the Palestinian people?
The “Free Palestine” Coalition started with the Union des démocrates musulmans de France (Union of Muslim Democrats of France), a party that describes itself as centre-left, anti-Zionist, and anti-Imperialist.
The coalition gathers now several European Muslim parties from Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands and Sweden to raise awareness of the genocide in Gaza and force Israel to stop the violence and the occupation.
So far, over 30,000 Palestinians have been killed, dozens of thousands have been injured and at least 2 million of them have been displaced. Hospitals, schools, and homes have been destroyed, making Gaza a living hell while stolen Palestinian land is already being sold to future Jewish settlers in Canada.
Nagib Azergui, Founder of the UDMF, presented the coalition’s program in Brussels on Tuesday, March 19th. He explained that the French and European diplomacies have been disastrous regarding the current genocide, giving unconditional support to Israel and its criminal actions.
This is why they felt the need to unite and give a voice to the Palestinian people but also to the millions of European citizens, Muslims and non-Muslims, who support Palestine and call for an immediate ceasefire.
Sanctions against Israel are seen as necessary to end the violence, as well as a complete stop to occupation and colonisation by the Zionist entity.
Here is a list of the coalition’s requests: • Any weapon or military equipment sale to Israel to be made illegal. • An embargo on all Israeli products as well as the interdiction to trade with Israel. • Any European citizen engaged in the Israeli army will be charged with crimes against humanity. • No access to European air space, harbours, and roads to all Israeli transporters. • The exclusion of Israel from all European and international competitions like the Olympic Games or the Football Champions League.
The European Union needs to stand for peace and stop the unbearable suffering inflicted on the Palestinian people. This is why the coalition aims to get representatives elected and sent to the European Parliament in order to start acting straight away, as the situation is more than urgent.
