  • Recently, popular Christian apologist and YouTuber David Wood admitted to raping minors during a livestream.
  • Mainstream media haven’t splashed with this story and Wood has been defended by bible teachers.

Picture this: a prominent figure in the dawah scene appears on a livestream and, with chilling nonchalance, describes having committed sexual offences against minors—no apparent remorse, no hesitation.

What would happen?

Even the darkest corners of the Western media ecosystem would seize upon such a moment. It would dominate GB News, the Daily Mail, and every outlet hungry for an anti-Muslim scandal. Within hours there would be follow-up stories demanding to know why the police had not yet intervened, and calls for the individual’s arrest, deportation, and public reckoning would echo across the country.

And yet this is what’s happened with David Wood, the Christian apologist.

In a recent livestream with Ridvan Aydemir, a friend of Wood’s, known as “Apostate Prophet,” Wood said, “The last two girls I had sex with before I went to jail, one was 13 and one was 15.”

“She had … wide hips, but she was 13. I did not care. I just, I did not care..” Wood made the remark near the end of a six-hour livestream that drew more than 150,000 views.

Many have said that Wood spoke in a boastful tone. Others commented on how he appeared to smirk while talking about raping the 15-year-old. Wood minimised his crime, characterising the girls as “willing participants.”

Wood was living in Virginia during the time period he admits to have committed the offences.

Under Virgina law , anyone under 15 (specifically 13 or 14) is a “child” for the purposes of this statute. If an adult (18+) has sexual intercourse with a child aged 13 or 14, that is a Class 4 felony. If the minor is 15–17 and the adult is 18+, then under Virginia Code § 18.2‑371, the crime is treated as a Class 1 misdemeanour.

Since the livestream, in response to those who have naturally been outraged by his confessions, the apologist posted:

I’d like to understand the rules here. As an 18-year-old atheist (and soon-to-be diagnosed psychopath), I bashed my father’s head in with a ball peen hammer. Shortly thereafter, while out on bond, I had sex with two minors. The latter disqualifies me from making YouTube videos about Christianity, while the former does not. I actually don’t understand, so please explain. (Note: If the latter DOES disqualify me from making YouTube videos about Christianity, I will stop making YouTube videos about Christianity. But I’ll need more explanation.’

When someone commented that Wood should face consequences for raping the girls, he responded:

How exactly would I go to prison for having sex with two girls more than 30 years ago? How would I, even with police help, find these girls (who might be grandmothers now)? What kind of resources do you think police would invest in such a nationwide hunt for two mystery women? Do you think they’d send me to prison based solely on me saying I did something?

And herein lies the problem: Wood continues to show no understanding of the gravity of these reprehensible acts the at he has confessed to, and takes no accountability for the alleged harm he has inflicted on these minors. Naturally, authorities and victims do not simply “let things go” because decades have passed , a reality reflected in church sex scandals worldwide to the more high profile case of Epstein.

Alarmingly, many of Woods followers have been defending his actions:

“How did (Wood) ravage their ‘precious souls’ you (sic) know they made sexual advances towards him FIRST right?” posted @SargonKildani.

Similarly, someone with the handle @_coldfact_ posted, “(T)he title already is awful. ‘He Raped Girls’ – no. he did not drag girls into the bushes. As a teen he had consensual sex with other teens. Stat rape, BIG diff.”

Regardless of whether the 13 year old “flung herself at me,” children cannot consent to such acts.

The Christian community has been by and large, silent, their voices conspicuously absent as these atrocities have been recounted. This silence is deafening, sending a troubling message: that even in the face of undeniable harm to vulnerable minors, accountability for these in authority in their community can be minimised, or ignored. We see no moral outrage. Where is the call for justice and protection for the most vulnerable? In remaining silent, the community risks complicity, allowing the perpetuationAnd when someone from the Christian community did speak out, she was shut down. Jule Roys who wrote an opinion piece on the matter for the Roys report said,

“Normally, this kind of flippant confession and minimization would be deemed unconscionable. But I was deluged with negative feedback for publishing the story about Wood, and called a litany of names by his followers.”

David Wood attacked his father with a hammer on 1994 Thanksgiving Day. He was subsequently diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder, Wood told his audience that he had long dismissed conventional moral norms and had previously described himself as a sociopath.

Wood runs the YouTube channel Apologetics Roadshow with 383,000 subscribers, with much of his content devoted less to Christian teaching vehemently attacking Muslims, distorting the teachings of Islam, including the creation of mockumentary-style videos about the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He has spent much of his career attacking the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) for his marriage to Aisha (RA). Prophet Muhammad’s marriage (peace be upon him) took place 14,000 years ago, at a time when such marriages were the norm. Moreover, a nine year old was not the same as a nine year old today. The stark irony is that Wood has admitted to acts of pedophilia and should no doubt face the full force of the law.

Amazingly, of those who watched the video in which Wood’s chilling confessions were made (available on his Patreon channel) only 6% pressed the dislike button. Some pointed to the fact that Wood was responding to an altercation begun by another Christian apologist, Sam Shamoun, who threatened to expose Wood.

Islamic preacher and YouTuber Daniel Haquitatu said on the Daniel Haquiatui show, “They are admitting to sex abuse crimes like this is a joke, this is funny.”

Wood posted another video after his live stream:

“I did nothing against their will,” he said of the sexual abuse. “Those girls approached me. But it’s statutory rape, right? Because girls that young can’t consent.

“There are always girls who would fling themselves at the bad boy in the room and I tended to be the bad boy. So yes, among other things, I had sex with a post-pubescent 13-year-old who, for some reason is at a party, and a post-pubescent 15-year-old. And if I hadn’t gotten locked up, I would have done worse than that.” of harm to continue unchecked.

Moreover, Bible teacher and YouTube personality Mike Winger defended Wood’s actions. There should have been at the very least a call to investigate the matter.
