• Iran strikes elite Israeli cyber intelligence and logistics hubs in a bold, strategic manoeuvre.
• Israel’s attack on Iran’s state broadcaster draws criticism for violating norms of military targeting.

Tensions between Iran and Israel erupted this week as Iran launched precision missile strikes against Israeli intelligence and military installations. The response, seen by some as carefully calibrated, followed a pattern of escalating aggression — but raised broader questions about Israel’s own recent conduct, particularly its strike on Iranian civilian infrastructure.

Iran Hits Mossad and Israeli Intelligence Centers

In one of the most high-profile targets to date, Mossad Unit 8200 was hit by Iranian missile fire, according to footage and reports circulating online. Unit 8200 is at the heart of Israel’s surveillance and cyber operations. The strike’s accuracy has shocked many analysts, suggesting Iranian intelligence and tactical capability may be underestimated.

Further reports confirmed that the Israel military centre, also called Gilot intelligence center, was targeted. The base near Tel Aviv plays a crucial role in military logistics and intelligence coordination — another calculated strike that undermines Israel’s traditional narrative of invulnerability in its central command structures.

Israel Attacks Iranian State Media Studio

While Iran’s targets were primarily military, Israel retaliated by striking the Iran state broadcaster channel studio — a controversial move, especially given that initial coverage misleadingly described it as “debris falls in Iran studio.” The studio in question is one of the main sources of broadcast in Iran, providing accessible news to the wider public without VPNs or foreign proxies.

The attack appears to contradict Israel’s stated goals of disabling nuclear-related infrastructure or strategic command centers. Instead, it raises concerns about whether such a strike fits the criteria of military necessity — or whether it amounts to an attack on civilian information flow and morale.

U.S. Officials Voice Alarm Over Possible Escalation

The regional fallout is not limited to Israel and Iran. In some quarters of the US government, officials have expressed growing concern over potential escalation. A report from Middle East Eye revealed that a direct US strike on Iran could lead to bigger Iranian retaliation against Israel, which might in turn drain the US’s global stockpile of missile interceptors to a “horrendous” level, according to a senior U.S. official.

With Iran delivering calculated strikes on military and intelligence targets, and Israel retaliating by hitting civilian infrastructure like media studios, the contrast in objectives is becoming harder to ignore.
