  • This article explores the possibility of IDF soldiers facing unseen adversaries, drawing historical parallels to the Battle of Badr and raising the question of whether these encounters could involve angels.

It also highlights the ongoing massacre and adversity faced by innocent Palestinians, while expressing hope for their protection and safety.

The spectre of destruction, bombings, and relentless attacks on children, women, medical professionals and the press, casts a dark shadow upon the lives of innocent civilians in Gaza. We helplessly observe the genocide of our brothers and sisters of Palestine unfold right before our eyes. “Israel has already carried out mass ethnic cleansing of Palestinians under the fog of war……again in the name of self-defence, Israel is seeking to justify what would amount to ethnic cleansing.”…….. a United Nations expert said.

As Israel launched its ground offensive, lDF soldiers claim they maybe contending with unseen adversaries, namely ‘ghosts’. While the likes of Richard Dawkins might hastily dismiss their accounts as hallucination, stress, guilt or even fatigue, could their experiences pertain to the historical and spiritual precedent in Islam? Could these sightings of ‘ghosts’ be angels, akin to those that descended in the legendary Battle of Badr?

At this particular juncture, the citizens of Gaza find themselves entrenched in the enduring struggle against their oppressors, the safety of the Palestinians does not seem imminent. However, is it plausible that this situation bears the hallmarks of a discerning forewarning?

To fully grasp the significance of these contemporary encounters, we must first delve into the historical backdrop of the Battle of Badr, a pivotal moment in Islamic history. It was the year 624 CE, and the Prophet Muhammad (saw) led a modest but mighty Muslim army, numbering 313 brave soldiers. Their adversaries, the Quraysh, a powerful pagan tribal army hailing from Mecca, boasted a considerable force of approximately 1,000 soldiers. The odds seemed insurmountable.

What unfolded in that fateful battle is a testament to the belief in divine intervention. Despite the overwhelming numerical disadvantage, the Muslims secured a resounding victory. This remarkable triumph is attributed to the presence and assistance of angels sent by Allah (swt). Their unseen allies helped turn the tide of the battle and secure an improbable victory.

The concept of angels intervening in human affairs is not unique to the Battle of Badr. Throughout Islamic history, there are various accounts of divine assistance through the agency of angels during pivotal battles and moments of adversity. It is believed that Allah swt sent down angels to support and guide the Muslim forces, serving as a source of strength and inspiration. Some of these include: The Battle of the Trench (Khandaq). During the Battle of the Trench in 627 CE, angels are believed to have played a role in protecting the Muslim community of Medina by helping dig the trench for their defence.

Now, fast forward to the present day, where IDF soldiers report confronting the unseen. Their stories are met with skepticism and disbelief, as many struggle to comprehend the nature of such claims.

While it may be challenging to definitively confirm the true nature of the unseen adversaries faced by IDF soldiers, the echoes of history beckon us to consider the possibility that they are battling angels who serve Allah; sent to provide a grave warning to them.

In a world where the line between the ordinary and the extraordinary is often blurred, perhaps we should keep an open mind to the belief that, as in the Battle of Badr, angels will walk amongst us, ensuring that even in the face of overwhelming odds, Allah’s promise of victory is true and is within reach.

In the absence of a formal, organised, lawful and sanctioned military force coming forth to safeguard our innocent Palestinian brothers and sisters from the clutches of oppression, ethnic cleansing and genocide, may the angels with the grandest of wings, cradle the innocent, beautiful and defenceless Palestinian babies. May our 50,000 pregnant sisters in Gaza find protection from harm, and may the courageous doctors of al-Awda Hospital, whose songs of protest resonate with resilient bravery, be granted the solace of safety…Ameen

It is paramount to emphasise that within Islam, the sanctity of innocent non-combatants, including women and children (irrespective of their faith or creed) remains inviolable; even the harm to trees is prohibited.
