The soldier was admitted to Assuta Ashdod Medical Centre with grievous limb injuries, and confronted a fungus resistant to treatment, ultimately succumbing to his wounds despite relentless care.

Ten soldiers are presumed to have fallen prey to the same fungus, presently undergoing treatment in Israel, as disclosed by the former director of Sheba Medical Center’s Infectious Diseases Unit on Kan radio. The fungus is believed to originate from soil tainted with sewage waste, transmitted through injuries sustained by soldiers in the challenging conditions of Gaza, impeding proper sterility.

The Israeli Society for Infectious Diseases is set to hold a prompt meeting with epidemiological experts from the IDF and the Health Ministry to tackle the increasing occurrence of soldiers contracting diseases amid the Gaza conflict.
According to Israeli military statistics, 498 soldiers have been killed, and 2,066 others have suffered injuries since October 7th. Notably, these figures do not account for the 60 policemen and 10 members of the Shin Bet security service who were killed during the Israeli assault on Gaza.
