Reports confirm Israel’s use of F-35 stealth fighter jets in strikes and that, as latest reports state, 3 have been shot down by Iran — an aircraft that include more than 15 percent UK-manufactured components, such as the rear fuselage, electronics, and ejection seats.

UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, has said the military aircraft were being sent “for contingency support across the region”, as he confirms that he is moving British military assets to the Middle East.

Tensions in the Middle East have further escalated following Israeli airstrikes on Iran. Iranian air defenses are currently engaging Israeli attacks over the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, a critical hub on the Strait of Hormuz. The strikes mark a significant intensification in regional hostilities. This comes as Iran warned the UK, US and France their bases in the region will be targeted if they help Israel stop Tehran’s strikes.

According to Middle East Eye, the Israeli Air Force used F-35 stealth warplanes in the assault. Notably, over 15 percent of the components used in the F-35 are manufactured in the United Kingdom, including key parts such as the rear fuselage, advanced electronics, and ejection seats. This underscores the global footprint of military-industrial supply chains and raises questions about the international implications of the conflict.

Meanwhile, the ongoing conflict has reverberated beyond battlefields and airstrikes. Israeli prison authorities allegedly assaulted Palestinian detainees across multiple detention facilities, including Ketziot and Megiddo prisons, after some prisoners were seen celebrating Iran’s earlier missile and drone attacks on Israeli targets. Human rights groups have previously raised alarms about conditions in these facilities, and the latest incidents are likely to intensify scrutiny.

The situation remains fluid, with fears of broader regional conflict mounting amid retaliatory strikes and shifting alliances. Latest updates will be posted as the situation develops.
