  • A video has gone viral on social media that has shared the harassment Ashish Prashar faced in New York whilst he was playing with his young child in a park.
  • This abusive woman skewed racist slurs because the victim was wearing an Arab scarf and because of the colour of his skin.

Whilst atrocities continue by the Israeli occupation in Palestine, unprovoked hate crime from zionists has rapidly escalated around the world.

Western news courage depicts unashamed support for Israel, this has encouraged hate crimes which are on the rise.

One of the most recent events is in Brooklyn, New York. Ashish Prashar (40) and his young child (18 months old) was physically and verbally harassed by a Jewish American woman, whilst he was playing with his son in Edmonds Playground.

A video was taken by Prashar which has been shared on ‘Stop Zionist Hate’. This video has gone viral and shows the woman aggressively approaching him and his child, yelling for him to “leave” and “get away”. Then, she becomes increasingly violent throwing her phone and scorching coffee at him and his vulnerable child

One can hear the disbelief in his voice as he calmly says “She’s attacking me because I am wearing a scarf”.

The aforementioned scarf is a traditional Arab scarf known as a keffiyeh. This scarf led to her cursing at him, and accusing him of “supporting Hamas” and being a “terrorist”, even though he had said nothing to her.

Prashar conveyed, through an official statement to the media, “She threw her hot coffee in my face,” and “I had just put my son down. It would have hit him in the face. I was mind blown.”

“I’m Punjabi. I was born in London. But it doesn’t mean I don’t have solidarity with anyone in the world who is seeking to be free.”

Prashar is a victim of mistaken identity and a hate crime, which shows that people are becoming increasingly racist to minorities in their communities no matter their background.

“I want it to stop,” Prashar said. “I don’t want a child to be stabbed 23 times in Illinois. I don’t want my child nearly scolded by hot coffee and I don’t want this to happen to another human being. I see those kids in Gaza and I see my child.”

There are individuals that witnessed this event, yet most decide to say nothing until she walks away, where a man says “I’m sorry that happened to you”.

This feels quite symbolic to the situation that is occurring in Palestine, whilst the whole world is watching, most western governments are allowing and even facilitating this conflict. In addition, in the aftermath, as with other genocides, we can anticipate perfunctory apologies.
