An Israeli TikToker has provoked widespread condemnation with a profoundly callous video in which she impersonates a Palestinian Muslim hijabi woman.
In the video, she speaks in Hebrew while applying makeup. She pretends that a bomb goes off and callously mocks the Palestinians by saying, “I need to charge my phone, but I don’t have any electricity.” She proceeds to exaggerate her makeup application, by stereotyping and mocking Arab women. Throughout, she uses makeup and imagery that appears to be covered in “debris,” just as her hijab and intentionally displays a McDonald’s bag. It’s worth noting that McDonalds has faced criticism on social media for providing free meals to the Israeli Defence Force while Palestinians face dire circumstances in Gaza, without any food, water and power supplies.
Content creators have responded to this repugnant video, expressing their revulsion at the way this woman is derisively portraying the suffering of Palestinians, all while 500,000 pregnant women in Gaza are trapped without access to healthcare, and Palestinians are living amid the rubble of their homes.
