  • Many Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia and UAE have banned Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse owing to the inclusion of trans flag that appears in the film.
  • Some social media users speculate that the reason for ban is the character of Gwen Stacy being a trans-ally.

One of the most speculated films in recent times “Spider Man: Across the Spider-Verse” has been banned by Saudi Arabia, UAE and several other Middle-Eastern countries. The reason for this step being taken by the concerned authorities of these countries is said to be the inclusion of “trans flag” that appears in the film.

According to the reports, the censorship rules of the said countries will not allow the movie to be released anywhere in the cinemas. Saudi Cinema has stated that the film would not be released since it ‘contradicts the content controls in force’.

In Spider Man – Across the Spider-Verse, there are instances when Gwen Stacy can be seen talking to her father about her identity. One of the scenes also shows a trans flag hanging on the wall of Gwen’s room that states ‘Protect Trans kids’.

Some are even speculating that Gwen Stacy is a transperson herself. After some of the scenes from the movie went viral, many social media users took to twitter in Saudi Arabia demanding a blanket ban on the film. They claimed that the movie was promoting ‘socially unacceptable connotations’. It must be noted that Saudi Arabia has criminalized LGBTQ+ activities in the country.

Despite creating a buzz all around the world with many applauding the movie for the concept of multiverse and spectacular storyline, a number of users are now watching the movie with suspicion and highlighting many scenes that are said to be promoting the LGBTQ+.

With Eid-ul-Adha around the corner, the movie was set to release on June 22nd in some of the theatres in Middle East, However, the criticism and backlash from the fans was followed by a complete ban on the film by Saudi Arabia, UAE and many other middle-eastern countries.

Earlier, countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Kuwait had also banned the screening of Marvel Studios film ‘Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness’ due to the inclusion of a gay character.

  1. First they give us a character that shoots web from the hands making a satanic gesture and then they get him into invalid relationship with a girlfriend and now they make the girlfriend a transgender. I would like to say that all of these really goes against the core character itself because Spiderman was not only supposed to protect the people from evil but also inspire them against it. Whereas in these so called “superhero” movies he is involved in all the evil notions. They may save the day but only in the movie. Who’s gonna save the millions of children unconsciously affected by it.

  2. I thought this was a muslim news site ?? Certainly could have fooled into thinking it’s a western one, not one mention that it’s Haram and why are painting the middle Eastern countries as the bad guys
