• Multiple Muslim organisations abstained from attending the White House Ramadan iftar, holding a counter-iftar to protest Biden’s pro-Israel stance.
• The “People’s White House Ceasefire Now Iftar,” organized by seven groups, condemned the White House’s support for Gazan atrocities.
Several Muslim groups have boycotted the annual iftar organised at the White House and instead staged a counter-iftar in front of the building to protest Biden’s pro-Israel policy. Named the “People’s White House Ceasefire Now Iftar,” the protest was co-organized by seven groups, including American Muslims for Palestine (AMP), the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), and Code Pinki city in this genocide.
”In light of the White House secretly approving a new military aid package including 2,000-pound bombs and aircraft to Israel, the need for solidarity and collective action has never been more apparent,” AMP said in a statement.
The White House had to scale down its traditional Ramadan dinner this year after several invitees rejected the invitation over the US support for Israel’s war on Gaza. Only a dozen Muslim staffers and doctors coming back from Gaza are expected to take part in the event, which usually includes hundreds of attendees and Muslim community leaders, according to media reports.“In light of the White House secretly approving a new military aid package including 2,000-pound bombs and aircraft to Israel, the need for solidarity and collective action has never been more apparent,” AMP said in a statement. The White House had to scale down its traditional Ramadan dinner after several invitees rejected the invitation over the US support for Israel’s war on Gaza. Notably, despite the international outcry against Israel’s genocidal actions in Gaza, resulting in nearly 33,000 Palestinian deaths since October 7, US President Biden covertly authorised the transfer of new bombs and advanced warplanes to Tel Aviv.
