- The basic principles of Islam, such as justice, compassion, honesty, integrity, and fairness, are demanded of Islamic leaders. Their choices and deeds ought to be in line with Islamic ethical standards.
- It is the Muslim community’s (the Ummah’s) responsibility to remain united. Beyond linguistic, cultural, and ethnic divides, the Quran highlights the value of Muslim unity and support for one another.
“And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. And remember the favor of Allah upon you – when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became, by His favor, brothers. And you were on the edge of a pit of the Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus Allah makes clear to you His verses that you may be guided.”
(Quran 3:103)
In today’s fast paced world where going with the flow has become easy and standing for the truth has become difficult, leadership and unity among Muslims is the need of the hour. Islam views leadership as a sacred role and a means of resolving issues going around in the world. The constant genocide in Palestine over the years, violation of human rights,Islamophobia, racism, poverty and substance abuse are just to name a few.
The Islamic leadership must call for justice and bring humanity from the verge of destruction to the path of God. The leaders have the potential to promote harmony by demonstrating shared beliefs and objectives to bring together the community worldwide.
The Islamic leaders in the world can work to address social justice concerns and encourage economic growth. Also, to develop mutual understanding and communication between Muslims and people from different religions should be the priority.
As the prophet Muhammad (PBUH) stated, “I’m going to leave two things among you: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah. You will not be misleading as long as you would hold them tightly. al-Muwaṭṭa’ 1661.
The above hadith proves why reviving the word of Allah and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is profusely important today in protecting the Ummah from being misled.
It is high time that we as believers take the saying “United we stand and divided we fall!” seriously. As more voices are raised globally, the oppressors and wrongdoers shall fall on their knees. When Ummah unites, a stronger and solid collective force shall develop. This power can discourage oppressors and make it more challenging for them to hold onto power.
Global solidarity can be established by unity that crossesnational boundaries. Support from Islamic groups throughout the globe may heighten the impact of resistance against injustice in today’s linked society.
The role of Muslim governments:
1- Muslim governments must work towards maintaining the brotherhood, raising voice against such genocides and taking appropriate action.
2- They need to keep an eye on their media to make sure that nothing being broadcasted or said would promoteanimosity amongst various Islamic sects.
3- Another field that requires a great deal of wisdom is education. The governments have a responsibility on education and curricula.
In addition to these, the Islamic leaders should connect with the youth in a way that is best suitable. To provide direction and open up opportunities for their personal and professional growthwould be a massive start.
To conclude, here is another significant hadith by our beloved prophet (saw)
“Each of you is a shepherd and each of you is responsible of his flock. The Amir (ruler) who is over the people is a shepherd and is responsible for his flock.”
Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1829.
