Saudi Arabia opted for a combined Islamic-Arab Summit on the 12th of November, in which Algeria submitted the proposal to cut all diplomatic and economic ties with Israel.
The main anti-Zionist measures also included:
- forbidding Israeli flights to have access to Arab airspace.
- encouraging oil-producing countries to use oil as a means to obtain a ceasefire.
In a surprising move, Saudi Arabia and UAE, followed by Jordan, Egypt, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan, Mauritania, and Djibouti blocked the proposal.
They explained that they needed to keep communication open with Tel Aviv in the current circumstances. Yet, no talks in favour of a ceasefire have started.
Netanyahu even threatened Arab leaders and declared:
“I say to the Arab leaders, if you want to preserve your interests, you must do one thing… Remain silent!”
Why does Netanyahu think that remaining silent on the Gaza Genocide is the only way for Arab leaders to “preserve” their “interests”? Everything goes against this idea since the public opinion in Arab and Muslim countries is strongly antizionist and in favour of an immediate ceasefire.
On the contrary, don’t Arab leaders risk losing their power by giving their populations the feeling of having been betrayed and therefore humiliated?
What is the hold that Netanyahu has on those Arab leaders?
Let’s look more closely at one of the countries which refused the proposal: Djibouti.
