  • PureGym CEO Humphrey Cobbold’s pro-Israel comments on BBC Question Time have sparked a Muslim boycott.
  • The boycott of PureGym has been a response to Cobbold’s remarks regarding the UK supplying weapons to the IDF.

In response to inquiries regarding the UK’s stance on arming Israel, Cobbold expressed “deep concern” over the situation in Gaza and emphasised the need for Israel to provide enhanced protection for the citizens of Gaza, who he noted are not to blame.

When questioned further about the UK Government’s potential cessation of arms sales, Cobbold underscored the importance of defensive weaponry, particularly for the Iron Dome system, citing previous attacks from Iran and the necessity for Israel to defend itself.

Cobbold stated that there is a limited armament supply from the UK to Israel compared to the United States, he maintained support for Israel’s defensive measures against Hamas, who are a designated terrorist organisation in the UK.

Cobbled urged recognition of the complexities involved, emphasising the need to distinguish between the actions of terrorist groups and the broader Palestinian population, who he stressed deserve greater protection.

The video of Cobbled has circulated far and wide on social Media. Subsequently, a multitude of Muslims, including prominent da’ee such as Hamza Tzortzis, have been advocating for a boycott of PureGym.
