• Joe Mackenzie who shouted “who the f*** is Allah during the Middlesbrough riots was seen weeping in court.
• In total, 40 arrests have now been made in connection to the riots in Middlesbrough.
A tearful company director, who shouted “who the f*** is Allah,” and a 15-year-old boy who threw a paving slab at a man’s head were among the rioting suspects who appeared in court yesterday.
Terrorist, Joe MacKenzie, a 28-year-old from Darlington (working for his father’s kitchen fitting business) used a handkerchief to wipe his eyes as he was remanded in custody for his alleged involvement in Sunday’s riots in Middlesbrough.
MacKenzie is accused of being part of a group of about 20 men wearing balaclavas and face coverings who clashed with police. Teesside Magistrates heard that he shouted “We are taking over, I “fing hate you cs” at the police while drinking from a can of lager.
Meanwhile, Dylan Carey from Hindley, Greater Manchester, blew a kiss at a woman from the dock at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court as he pleaded guilty to violent disorder. Footage shown in court depicted the 26-year-old kicking a police van and throwing an object at it. He was part of a “hostile” crowd that surged at police while chanting “who the f*** is Allah” outside a mosque in Southport last Tuesday.
A 16-year-old, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, is accused of carrying an axe during the riots. He faces charges of unlawful violence and carrying an offensive weapon. In court, he confirmed his date of birth and address and was accompanied by a dock officer. He pleaded not guilty to the weapon offence but did not enter a plea for the other charge.
The subsequent unrest across Britain has been fuelled by misinformation online, falsely claiming the teenage murder suspect was a Muslim refugee who had arrived in the UK by boat.
Those who appeared in court range in age from 16 to 56. 26 individuals have been charged with violent disorder, an 18-year-old is charged with possession of an offensive weapon, and a 32-year-old was charged after being wanted on a warrant. In total, 40 arrests have now been made in connection to the riots in Middlesbrough.
