Assistant Commissioner of Police, Daniel Amah, celebrated for his resolute refusal to accept a $200,000 bribe, has embraced Islam in a solemn ceremony at the palace of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
During the intimate event, which took place on Tuesday, Amah took his shahadah, adopting Muhammad as his new name. Speaking in Hausa, the Emir exhorted Amah to pursue Islamic knowledge and observe the five pillars of Islam: shahadah, the five daily prayers, fasting, hajj, and Zakat (charitable giving). The Emir invoked prayers for Allah’s guidance, asking that Amah become one of the finest Muslims in the world.
Furthermore, the Emir advised Amah to maintain his exemplary character and remain dutifully respectful and obedient to his parents, irrespective of their religious stance.
Amah initially gained widespread recognition as the Divisional Police Officer in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, where he gained national admiration for turning down a $200,000 bribe offered by armed robbery suspects in April 2022. These suspects had stolen over N300 million in a heist, during which they meticulously tracked and robbed a Bureau De Change operator who was in possession of $750,000 in cash.
In acknowledgment of his unwavering integrity, the Police Service Commission elevated Amah from Chief Superintendent of Police to Assistant Commissioner of Police on November 10, 2022. Furthermore, former President Muhammadu Buhari conferred upon him the distinguished 2022 Public Service Integrity Award, following a recommendation by Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, in a letter dated September 13, 2022.
