A mosque in southeast Sweden has sustained significant damage following a suspected arson attack, as reported by local media.
According to Anas Deneche, the Communication Director of Eskilstuna Grand Mosque, speaking to the public broadcaster SR, the fire in the Arby section of Eskilstuna city was caused by arson. Deneche conveyed their determination not to give up and confirmed plans to rebuild the mosque. He also encouraged members to remain patient, stating, “We get to practice what we Muslims say ‘sabar,’ which is patience.”
Deneche mentioned that the mosque had previously faced threats and physical attacks, underscoring their belief that this incident was, indeed, an arson attack.
Local law enforcement reports that the damage renders the mosque unusable, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. Firefighters from four stations worked together to extinguish the fire. An official investigation into the incident has been launched.
This attack follows a series of troubling events in Sweden, including the public burning of the Qur’an in recent months.
