  • Around 1,500 Moroccans protested in Tangier against a Maersk ship allegedly carrying US F‑35 parts to Israel, chanting against weapons in Moroccan waters.
  • Protestors also urged Morocco to cut diplomatic ties with Israel.

On Sunday in Tangier, over 1,000 demonstrators surged toward the port to block a vessel believed to be carrying fighter‑jet components destined for Israel. Dockworkers and Gaza‑support groups warned the Maersk ship was loaded with spare parts for F‑35 warplanes from the United States and slated to dock that day.

Approximately 1,500 marchers pressed along the road by the Tanger Med container terminal, defiantly chanting “The people want the ship banned” and:

Maersk insists it does not transport weapons or ammunition “to any conflict zones”, even as its U.S. government contract covers shipments of “military-related equipment” under “US-Israeli security cooperation.” Protesters also urged Morocco to sever diplomatic ties with Israel—normalised in 2020 under the Abraham Accords—and echoed nationwide calls since October 2023.

Though Rabat has officially demanded “the immediate, complete and permanent halt to the Israeli war on Gaza,” it has stopped short of reversing its normalisation agreement.
