• At least half of schools in Lebanon are being used as collective shelters.

• The World Bank estimates it will take Lebanon decades to recover from these successive shocks to children’s education.

At least 500 public schools in Lebanon are being used as collective shelters due to Israel’s expansion of genocide into Lebanon on September 23rd.

Since October last year, Israel has killed more than 3000 people in Lebanon, including 127 children, and at least 10,000 injured.

Salim, 45, a father of three boys in the south of Lebanon aged 12, 16, and 17, has had to relocate eight times with his family now staying in a school that is being used as a shelter in Bekaa, Eastern Lebanon.

He said:

“Every time we thought this was it, and we could settle down, take a breath, we were forced to move again.

“None of my children have received a proper education since 2020. Now, all they care about is making sure we’re safe and together. I never wanted this for them.

“I wanted them to have the freedom to dream, to chase after those dreams when the time was right, and to live their lives to the fullest.

“But now, all I want is for them to survive. Dreams have been replaced by basic survival. Food, education, and medication, these things have become distant luxuries."

Israeli airstrikes have forced 40% of Lebanon’s 1.5 million pupils from their homes and postponed the start of the school year for public schools from October 14 to November 4.

Only on Monday night, Israel struck Ain Yaaqoub in the remote, far northern corner of Lebanon, killing at least 14 people.

In Lebanon alone, Israel has shown complete disregard for human life by targeting Ain Yaaqoub, where neither Hezbollah nor Hamas are stationed.

Israel is and has used terror to carry out its expansionist endeavours, from the bombings and starvation of Gaza that the Lancet study predicts have killed 186,000 people by direct or indirect effects of the Israeli genocide to now the expansion of the genocide into the very remote edges of Lebanon.

Time will tell when the breaking point will be for the Muslim and Arab worlds to rise up against the Israeli terror state.
