- The LGBTQ community in Pakistan seeks approval from the Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad to establish the ‘Lorenzo Gay Club.’
- The application emphasises the club’s importance as a practical resource for LGBTQ individuals.
The LGBTQ community in Pakistan continues to advocate for pushing boundaries that resonate with their movement. Now, they have approached the office of the Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad to seek permission for the establishment of a gay club.
A formal request for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) has been submitted to establish the ‘Lorenzo Gay Club’ in the garrison city of Abbottabad.
The application filed by Preetum Giani sought to establish a secure environment for individuals of all sexual orientations to gather.
The Application reads:
“The club would constitute a great practical convenience and resource for many homosexual, bisexual, and even some heterosexual people residing in Abbottabad in particular, and in other parts of the country in general. Lorenzo Gay Club would basically be just a venue where gay people could freely meet, converse with, and share light refreshments with other gay people….
The applicant framed it as a matter of the fundamental human right to freely associate, as guaranteed by the country’s constitution.
However, the application has faced staunch criticism due to Pakistan being an Islamic Republic. Homosexual acts are considered criminal under Section 377 of Pakistan’s legislation.
The DC Abbottabad office has yet to respond to the application, leaving the decision on this matter in limbo.
