Israeli airstrikes targeted military sites in northern Daraa, with reports indicating strikes on the 12th Brigade in Izraa and the 89th Regiment’s artillery battalion in Jbab.

Amid escalating violence in Latakia, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa vowed to hold those responsible for civilian bloodshed accountable.

The Syrian Arab News Agency reported that airstrikes on Monday night targeted two towns in northern Daraa, located approximately 64 miles south of Damascus.

SANA report:

“Israeli occupation aircraft carried out several strikes on the surroundings of the towns of Jbab and Izraa in the north of Daraa.”

Syrian official Telegram channels also reported the attack, asserting that Israeli warplanes struck the 12th Brigade in Izraa and the 89th Regiment’s artillery battalion in Jbab.

Israeli media outlet Channel 14 also confirmed the strikes, describing them as the latest violation of Syrian territory. They reported, “Our planes are attacking north Daraa in Syria now,” and claimed the strikes targeted weapons depots, radar systems, tanks, and artillery that had allegedly fallen into the hands of rebel groups.

Following the fall of former President Bashar al-Assad, Israel expanded its illegal occupation of the Syrian Golan Heights by seizing the demilitarized buffer zone, violating the 1974 disengagement agreement with Syria.

In recent years, Israel has conducted hundreds of airstrikes on military sites across Syria, targeting fighter jets, missile systems, and air defense installations — actions widely seen as efforts to weaken Syria’s ability to defend itself.

Amid global inaction regarding the crisis in Gaza, concerns are mounting that Israel is exploiting Syria’s instability to further expand its occupation of Arab territories.

The latest attack on Daraa comes amid escalating violence in Syria’s coastal Latakia region.

Fighting in Latakia, triggered by the killing of 13 Syrian security personnel, has been intense, resulting in heavy casualties among Syrian security forces, pro-Assad militias, and civilians.

Alawite-led groups have reportedly sought to incite minority communities to rise against Damascus, in what appears to be a desperate attempt to plunge Syria back into civil war.

Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa vowed to hold those responsible for the civilian bloodshed accountable.

“We affirm that we will hold everyone responsible for the bloodshed of civilians… There will be no one above the law,” al-Sharaa stated.

His remarks followed a report by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which claimed that 750 civilians had been killed by pro-government militias in Latakia.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated last month that southern Syria must be fully demilitarised. He also cautioned that his government would not tolerate the presence of forces from the new Damascus administration, led by Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa, near Occupied Palestine.

Assad, who ruled Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia after anti-regime forces seized Damascus on December 8, ending the Alawite-led regime’s decades-long grip on power. Despite his departure, armed supporters and remnants of Assad’s former army continue to operate in parts of the country.

Latakia, once a stronghold of the Assad regime, played a pivotal role in the brutal civil war that murdered over 600,000.
