  • An Israeli settler desecrates Muslim cemetery in Jerusalem’s Old City.
  • The Donkey’s head hung from fence near the Golden Gate, adjacent to the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, condemned as a serious desecration by the Waqf Islamic affairs council.

An Israeli settler was arrested on Wednesday on suspicions of having desecrated a Muslim cemetery in annexed east Jerusalem’s Old City by hanging a donkey’s head.

The police arrested the 35 year old after they were alerted that a man had “broken the law and disrupted public order by hanging the head of a donkey”. The police predictably describe him as “unbalanced”.

Photographs from the incident have been circulating on social media, showcasing the head of a donkey hanging from a fence of the cemetery. This is directly adjacent to the Golden Gate.

The police have stated that the man was carrying an axe at the time of his arrest. In addition, another suspect who allegedly had assisted in taking him there was also in custody.

“A Jewish extremist slit the throat of a donkey today at the Golden Gate cemetery before hanging it over the Muslim graves there,”
the Waqf Islamic affairs council said in a statement.
“It was a serious desecration of one of the main historic Muslim cemeteries in Jerusalem.”
The cemetery is near the Al-Aqsa mosque compound, an incredibly holy site to Muslims.
