• The staggering toll of civilian casualties and displacement emphasizes the harsh reality of Israel’s so-called pursuit of peace, revealing it to be nothing more than a facade.
• Parallels drawn between Herzog’s statement and a verse in the Qur’an highlight the hypocrisy of Israel’s claims to peace.
Israeli President Isaac Herzog said in a recent statement:
“The last thing that Israel is seeking in this region since its creation is to go to war. We are seeking peace. We are peace seekers.”
This comes after Israel has indiscriminately killed more than 33,000 civilians, injuring over 70,000, and displacing more than 2 million Palestinians from their homes. This staggering toll exposes the harsh reality of Israel’s so-called pursuit of peace, revealing it to be nothing more than a facade for maintaining its oppressive grip on Palestinian territories.
Additionally, Israel’s recent brazen attack on an Iranian embassy in Syria, which claimed the lives of seven individuals, demonstrates the country’s flagrant disregard for international law and sovereign boundaries. This reckless act not only escalates tensions in an already volatile region but also risks triggering a wider conflict with potentially catastrophic consequences for the entire Middle East.
Remarkably, Herzog’s statements may affirm a verse from the Qur’an in which Allah (SWT) is describing the hypocrites. The verse is found in Chapter 2 verse 11 of the Qur’an wherein Allah (SWT) says, “And when it is said to them, “Do not cause corruption on the earth,” they say, “We are but peacemakers.””
Herzog’s attempt to cloak Israel’s actions in the language of peace is not only disingenuous but also insulting to the intelligence of the international community. Herzog’s rhetoric serves to perpetuate the myth of Israeli victimhood while ignoring the suffering and oppression endured by the Palestinian people for decades. By portraying Israel as a peace-seeking nation, Herzog seeks to absolve the country of accountability for its systematic violations of Palestinian rights and its ongoing occupation and colonization of Palestinian land.
The reality is that Israel’s actions speak louder than Herzog’s empty words, and they reveal a government more interested in maintaining its power and privilege at the expense of Palestinian lives and aspirations.
