- London Metropolitan Police say there has been an increase in Islamophobic incidents in London between 29th September and 12th October.
The Metropolitan Police, in an official statement, discloses a concerning escalation in Islamophobia during the period from September 29th to October 12th, 2023. A total of 58 Islamophobic incidents and 54 Islamophobic offences were reported, marking a stark increase compared to the same two-week span in the preceding year, during which there were 31 Islamophobic incidents and 34 Islamophobic offences.
To exemplify this phenomenon, the following incident should be considered which occurred on Friday 13th of October, wherein a Muslim woman encountered a threat during her commute on the Northern Line in London. The perpetrator was reading the newspaper whilst making a threatening gesture towards the Muslim woman.
