Okay, while Michael Gove didn’t utter these exact words during his parliamentary address today, his implications were unmistakably aligned with this sentiment. Throwing around terms one doesn’t have any knowledge of, evidently leads to mass misinformation and Islamophobia.
“Islamism is governed by Sharia Law.”, he said. It seems that Gove may have overlooked the fact that Sharia law is universally respected and believed as God’s law by Muslims worldwide. It constitutes an integral part of our faith and is incumbent upon us to believe.
Under Michael Gove’s new definition of Extremism (the fervour he conveyed in parliament today) individuals are still permitted to openly express hatred towards Muslims and hold parliamentary positions, as evidenced by figures like Lee Anderson. Furthermore, one can engage in actions such as killing Palestinian civilians, including women and babies, while serving as an IDF soldier, and then return to the UK without facing any consequences.
The revised definition describes extremism as:
"the promotion or advancement of an ideology based on violence, hatred or intolerance" that aims to "negate or destroy the fundamental rights and freedoms of others" or "undermine, overturn or replace the UK's system of liberal parliamentary democracy and democratic rights”.
Additionally, it includes those who “intentionally create a permissive environment for others to achieve” either of those aims.
“We will be holding these, and other organisations, to account to assess if they meet our definition of extremism and will take action as appropriate….
- British National Socialist Movement
- Patriotic Alternative
- Muslim Association of Britain
- The British affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood
- Cage
- MEND…..” Gove said.
