Iran unleashed swarms of drones and numerous missile strikes toward Israel tonight. This action was in retaliation for the assassination of 6 Iranian commanders last week, including General Mohammad Reza Zahedi in Syria.

On April 1st, an airstrike targeted the Iranian consulate in Damascus. Iran accused Israel, with Khamenei promising revenge in an Eid al-Fitr broadcast to the nation. While Israel has not officially confirmed its involvement, it is widely believed to be responsible for the attack.

Iran’s defence minister cautioned that Tehran would retaliate against any nation that permits Israel to launch attacks on Iran from its airspace or territory.

On Saturday night, the Israeli military has reported that more than 100 drones have been unleashed thus far. The cruise missiles that have reportedly been launched are expected to have shorter flight durations.

The White House anticipate the attack to unfold over several hours, while Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei stated that “malicious Zionist regime will be punished”.

According to security sources in Iraq numerous drones were observed flying overhead. There have been reported sightings of missiles flying over southern Iraq’s Basra region.

The Israeli military stated that its air defences were ready to intercept the drones. Lebanon and Iraq have closed their airspace, and Israel has halted operations at its airport, resulting in flights from Thailand and the UAE being diverted.

Jordanian security sources indicate that the kingdom’s air defences would shoot down any drones breaching its airspace.

According to Haaretz, Israel advised residents in Eilat, Dimona, Nivatim, and the Golan to stay near bomb shelters.

Tonight, residents of Tehran were observed jubilantly celebrating the strikes on Israel.

Iranian missiles were seen propelled in the skies of Nablus.

A circulating video depicts Israelis urgently seeking shelter as missiles strike their localities.

US President Joe Biden is in discussions with security officials.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak swiftly condemned the Iranian assault:

French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne said, “taking such an unprecedented action, Iran has crossed a new threshold with regard to its destabilizing activities and is risking a potential military escalation.”

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated in a statement on X that Germany condemns “in the strongest possible terms the ongoing attack, which could plunge an entire region into chaos.”

“Iran and its proxies must stop it immediately,” Baerbock wrote. “We offer Israel our full solidarity at this time.”

Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau asserted that Canada “unequivocally condemns Iran’s airborne attacks against Israel.”

“We stand with Israel. After supporting Hamas’ brutal October 7 attack, the Iranian regime’s latest actions will further destabilize the region and make lasting peace more difficult,” Trudeau said in a statement.

“We support Israel’s right to defend itself and its people from these attacks.”
