If Elon Musk is building a chat bot to counter “woke AI” surely Muslims need their own version too?

  • Chat GPT will wax poetic any liberal idea you ask it; hindering freedom of thought. This will only foster in obstructing intellectual dialogue.
  • Elon Musk has vowed to do something about this. However, isn’t it high time Muslims had their own version of an AI chat bot?

Chat GPT is developing at lightening speed. The incredibly potent artificial intelligence software has witnessed numerous advancements over the past couple of months. However, is there a more insidious agenda lurking beneath the surface?

As someone who follows the teachings of Islam or adheres to orthodox Abrahamic faiths, you might have engaged with chat GPT at this juncture, purely for the purpose of amusement, akin to when we first inquired, “Hey Siri, what is the current time in Palestine?”. However, after 5 minutes, you would’ve sparred with many of the answers generated by the AI tool, since they do not align with the tenets of orthodox Abrahamic faiths. Chat GPT will however, wax poetic anything that pleases the ‘woke brigade.’ Let’s have a look at a few examples:

Musk who co-founded ChatGPT-maker OpenAI along with Y Combinator, CEO Sam Altman and PayPal alums LinkedIn cofounder Reid Hoffman (amongst others) in 2015, resigned his board seat in 2018. During his resignation, he cited potential conflicts of interest ‘between OpenAI’s work and the machine learning research done by Telsa to develop autonomous driving’ according to The Verge.

Since the Nov. 30 2022 launch of ChatGPT going viral, Musk has had heated disagreements with Altman over the censorship of ChatGPT’s responses. These were regarding what the AI tool deems to be inappropriate or harmful prompts.

A self-proclaimed advocate for free speech, Musk tweeted:

He has since moved ahead with his own AI plans.

Speculation spiralled about whether Musk’s AI bot would be incorporated into Twitter. However, this rumour was quickly dispelled.

Certain ideologies being foisted onto vulnerable children and the mass populace exemplify how we are rapidly heading towards a totalitarian state reminiscent of George Orwell’s “1984,” where freedom of thought will be buried.

Freedom of religion, for instance, is a superficially protected characteristic under UK legislation. This can be evidenced through the case of a Christian teaching assistant who initially raised concerns about LGBTQ being taught in her son’s lessons. She was then dismissed from her role and only gained victory after an appeal through the courts.

We see how Chat GPT stifles freedom of thought in a society where the prevailing paradigm is secular liberalism. This will undoubtedly heighten the culture wars in the West. Moreover, it will inevitably hinder intellectual dialogue. This is somewhat alarming, as the tool generates answers to assist students on their academic journey. The app has already reportedly gained glaring popularity amongst GCSE students, who have been turning to it to plagiarise assignments and coursework. In addition, many young people are using Chat GPT for acquiring general knowledge. This could be due to the fact that definitive answers are generated as opposed to a selection of Google searches.

Consequently, in order to safeguard children, perhaps it’s time for Muslims to create their own version of an AI bot. Any takers?

  1. Yes! Hopefully soon we’ll see Muslims creating a version insha’Allah, the big issue would be finding the funding required to run and maintain it.
