Israel Hayom newspaper reported that approximately 250 soldiers at a military base fell ill due to consuming spoiled food. This resulted in 17 of them being hospitalised.

The soldiers were stationed on the Golan Heights, where they were taking part in a battalion-wide exercise. This was suspended towards the end of March due to the soldiers’ health.

Some of the soldiers told Channel 2’s news site that they had arrived at Pilon Camp, where they were to spend the weekend. The soldiers said they were served a dinner of saut ed chicken, and some noticed that the chicken smelled bad. However, they consumed the provided meals nonetheless. Subsequently, they experienced intense stomach pains and diarrhea. The battalion commander and other officers also fell ill with identical symptoms.

The soldiers’ families expressed concerns, stating that the provided food was inedible and lamenting the restriction on purchasing food due to the base’s recruitment policy.

The army is currently conducting an investigation into the incident.
