• During a Knesset debate, Israeli minister May Golan expressed her pride in the ruins of Gaza

• ‘Every baby 80 years from now will tell their grandchildren what the Jews did.’ Claims the Israeli minister

During a Knesset debate held on February 19th to decide whether to reject a unilateral Palestinian state recognition brought forward by Prime Minister Netanyahu, May Golan, the Israeli minister for the advancement of women, launched an angry tirade of words against the people of Gaza and those who sympathise with them.

She has said she is ‘personally proud of the ruins in Gaza’. Gaza, in which more than 29,000 people have been killed, with more than 80% of the total population displaced as a result of the continuous bombardment. It is estimated by the Red Cross that 500,000 people have no home to go back to because the houses that once stood have become ruins. Yet even after this ongoing genocide, May Golan had the audacity to say she was proud of the ruins that remain. This highlights the ineptitude of Israeli politicians in hiding the aims of ethnic cleansing, as implying that you are proud of the ruins that have prevented people from returning is saying that you are proud of the mass displacement and no return. This is forced displacement and falls within the spectrum of ethnic cleansing.

This is not new, as Israeli politicians have time and time again throughout this genocide called for ethnic cleansing, with one minister even calling for the nuclear bomb to be dropped on Gaza. This ongoing genocidal rhetoric is showing no signs of stopping, and with the actual genocide still ongoing, it becomes evident that the international community has failed at every angle to end the genocide by the mere fact that they could not even alter the rhetoric Israel uses in public after 5 months of genocide.
