  • The vilification of those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian cause is a reflection of our fractured society.
  • Those in the spotlight possess the power to wield influence, and it is for this reason that their words play a crucial role in shaping the very essence of our society.

In a world where the principles of free expression and diversity of thought should be accepted, the vilification of those who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian cause is a reflection of our fractured society. It is imperative that we foster a climate of open dialogue and respectful engagement, for only then can we hope to transcend the divisive rhetoric that seeks to castigate those who dare to champion the truth, justice and humanity on a global stage.

Celebrities on the Right Side of History: Courageously Speaking Up for Justice, Despite Facing Adversity

Egyptian Arsenal footballer Mohamed Elneny faced backlash for displaying his solidarity with Palestine by featuring Masjid al-Aqsa and the Palestinian flag in his Instagram profile picture.

Hollywood actress and renowned activist, Susan Sarandon, shared several links on her Instagram account that seemingly expressed disapproval of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza. In the past year, Sarandon also voiced her anger and frustrations regarding the killing of Al Jazeera journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh who was tragically shot in Jenin.

Similarly, in a recent Instagram story, the renowned Swedish pop star Zara Larsson presented a photo of herself with the caption, ‘Oh, so there’s a call to support Ukraine when Russia invades, but not Palesti-‘

However, the lamentable trend of maligning celebrities who dare to voice their support for Palestine is an ignominious testament to the unfortunate state of public discourse. Such reprehensible behaviour constitutes a bullying tactic of the most insidious kind, wherein individuals of influence are vilified for expressing their empathetic sentiments toward a deeply troubling issue.

The Palestine issue should touch the hearts of all, transcending distinctions of background, religion, or race. It profoundly exemplifies a humanitarian concern when individuals of notable influence choose to diverge from the mainstream prevailing norms and reject the mass Zionist propaganda machine, illuminating the integrity of their character. This becomes increasingly significant within the contemporary context, defined by the dominance of cancel culture, rampant individualism, and materialism.
