Despite his decades-long advocacy for atheism, evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins recently referred to himself as a ‘cultural Christian’ during an appearance on an LBC radio show.
During the interview, Dawkins showcased his rampant Islamophobia, stating it is not, unlike Christianity, a ‘fundamentally decent’ religion. He expressed satisfaction with the decline in Christianity’s popularity but voiced concern about losing architectural and cultural heritage tied to the faith that could possibly be replaced with Mosques.
Dawkins remarked, ‘I would not be happy if we lost all our cathedrals and our beautiful parish churches.’
In response, Historian and Da’ee Ustadh Adnan Rashid astutely reminded his followers of the historical atrocities committed during periods of Christian governance.

Dawkins displays his sheer ignorance of both Islam and Christianity through this statement. To illustrate, here are a few examples of rights afforded to women in Islam:
• Islam came to give inheritance rights to women.
• “Heaven lies under the feet of your mother” (Bukhari). This Hadith illustrates the great status a mother has in Islam. Dawkins may not believe in Heaven and Hell, however, this Hadith makes Muslims have great respect for their mothers and treat them accordingly as opposed to throwing them into care homes during their old age.
• Daughters are also honoured in Islam: “Whoever takes care of two girls until they reach adulthood, he and I will come like this on the Day of Resurrection,” and he held his fingers together (Narrated by Muslim, 2631)
When it comes to his comments on homosexuality in Islam, Mr. Dawkins seems to have overlooked certain passages in the Bible:
‘If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them’
Leviticus 20:13
In the New Testament, Jude adds an important insight:
‘...just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire’

LBC Presenter Rachel Johnson, Boris Johnson’s sister, has previously expressed Islamophobic discourse herself. In the interview, she brought to Dawkins’s attention how 6,000 mosques are currently under construction in Europe and wanted to know Dawkins’s thoughts on the matter. Interestingly, many churches in the UK are being bought by supermarket chains such as Tesco simply because no one is attending them.

Dawkins has consistently expressed disdain for all religions. However, his recent remarks only serve to confirm our long-held suspicions: he is our resident Islamophobe who has lost any semblance of relevance.
