On Friday afternoon, the IDF reported that its soldiers had encountered an attack by hundreds of hornets in the southern Gaza Strip. 12 IDF soldiers encountered injuries following the angry swarm of wasps which followed them.

This was triggered by a tank inadvertently disturbing a nest, according to military sources.

Ten soldiers were admitted to Sheba Medical Centre in Tel Aviv for treatment, with one transferred to the intensive care unit. The hospital emphasised that none of the soldiers’ conditions had worsened, and their lives were not at risk.

“I have never seen a similar case of hundreds of bees attacking one person,” said Dr. Avi Ironi, director of the Sheba Emergency Medical Center.

The incident took place during an operation by the Gaza Division’s Southern Brigade near the border area, opposite the Israeli community of Nirim. A tank inadvertently drove over a large wasp nest, prompting the insects to swarm and sting the troops.

Medical personnel noted that some soldiers sustained numerous wasp stings and experienced allergic reactions, marking an unprecedented mass incident for the hospital staff.
