- Rajeev Chandrashekhar co-owns Niraaamaya Resort in Kovalam, Kerala, serving beef, despite his BJP party’s abhorrent treatment of beef-consuming Muslims.
- Indian police and vigilante militias brutally attack Muslims for alleged cattle handling, emblematic of the abhorrent surge in violent Hindutva extremism.
BJP leader Rajeev Chandrashekhar is among the proprietors of the Niraaamaya Resort located in Kovalam, Kerala. The establishment notably offers beef in its café, boasting commendable quality. However, it the stark hypocrisy that members of his party elsewhere in the country advocate for the persecution of individuals simply for consuming beef. Perhaps the Muslims of India ought to frequent Chandrashekhar’s resort to get their daily fix of protein.
Paradoxically, in a recent case in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Indian Police fired at an alleged ‘cattle smuggler’ who sustained a bullet injury in the leg:
Police have been given the authority to make an arrest without possessing a warrant. This may be attributed to the reason 200 vigilante militias reportedly operate on roads and highways late at night in the Delhi region. They have been patrolling roads that lead to Muslim villages and in search of trucks that may be ‘smuggling’ cows across state borders that lead to Muslim villages.
In 2019 New York-based ‘Human Rights Watch’ analysed the statistics of Hindu nationalist cow vigilantism in India. The 104-page report revealed that tragically, 44 Muslims had been killed, and 280 Muslims had been severely injured in more than 100 attacks between May 2015 and December 2018.
India is currently witnessing a surge in cases of violent Hindutva extremists killing Muslims for eating beef. It is reported that some of the killings taking place have been due to mere conjecture or hearsay, with many new Hindutva mobs being formed in Northern India, who have, in turn, embodied the anti-Muslim rhetoric of the ruling BJP party.
