  • PM Narendra Modi inaugurated Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu temple.
  • However, Modi’s Hindu extremist government continues to demolish mosques in India. The UAE’s continued relations with Israel draws much scrutiny.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Abu Dhabi’s first Hindu temple, the largest in the United Arab Emirates, on Wednesday. This event further solidified his stature as a global statesman, particularly as he vies for an uncommon third term in office in the upcoming nationwide elections. The BAPS Hindu Mandir, situated across 27 acres in the Abu Dhabi desert, stands as the city’s premier traditional Hindu stone mandir, with its pink sandstone columns crowned with seven spires, symbolising the Emirates’ ruling Sheikhs. President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan warmly welcomed Modi with an embrace and extended the Guard of Honour, highlighting the strategic and economic ties between the two nations.

Modi’s inauguration of the temple precedes India’s forthcoming general election, scheduled for the spring season.

The simultaneous destruction of two mosques in India within days of one another, has drawn widespread attention. These events in Uttarakhand state and Delhi closely follow Prime Minister Modi’s inauguration of the controversial Ram Mandir this year, erected on the site of the 16th century-old Babri Masjid, demolished by Hindu extremists on 6th December 1992.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was bestowed with the highest civilian honour of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a gesture that stirred controversy among human rights activists and Muslims, due to his government’s crackdown on the Muslim-majority Kashmir region under New Delhi’s administration.

Modi received the Order of Zayed medal from the UAE’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, during his visit to the capital, Abu Dhabi, which further solidified the bond between the two nations.

MBZ personally adorned Modi with the gold medal, with a portrait of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s inaugural president after whom the order is named, prominently displayed in the background.

Lana Nusseibeh, the UAE’s ambassador to the UN, expresses pride in ‘talking to the people who disagree with us’.

Addressing the World Government Summit on the 12th February, an annual assembly of business and political figures in Dubai, Lana Nusseibeh said their were advantages of collaborating with Israel.

“Because of that cooperation… we have a field hospital in Gaza and we have a maritime hospital docking in the Al-Arish port,” in Egypt said Nusseibeh.

For the “residents of Gaza, it’s not enough. What we need… is a humanitarian ceasefire and a two-state solution,” she added.

“Will we get that by talking to the people who agree with us? No. We will get that by talking to the people who disagree with us and the UAE will always be proud of doing that.”

A large corpus of Palestinian activists and Muslims around the globe are aware that a 2 state solution is not what Israel are intending for, as stated by Israeli Ambassador to the U.K, Tzipi Hotovely:

Furthermore, the Muslim ummah is not advocating for a two-state solution; their primary concern lies in ensuring that Palestinians regain the land that was unjustly stolen from them.

The UAE’s ongoing ties with Israel are inhumane and reek of betrayal, injustice and greed. Just as they do with India.
