Abel Tesfaye, also knows as The Weekend has donated $2.5 million to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for its humanitarian efforts in Gaza. This amounts to four million emergency meals, feeding more than 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks according to a press release Allahumma Barik!
The 33-year-old globally renowned artist has served as a WFP goodwill ambassador since 2021. Tesfaye withdrew the money from his XO Humanitarian Fund. Established in 2022, the intention of the fund was to provide food and global support to people experiencing hunger and starvation.
In addition, South London rapper Dave has raised $633,215 for children in Palestine, Sudan and Congo.
The funds were raised from two weeks of his merchandise sale which he stated would be doubled and matched.
On December 7th he clarified:
“We will be donating ALL the proceeds to medical care and essential needs for children in Palestine; children affected by the conflict in Sudan; and children affected by displacement in Congo”.
