- PM Rishi Sunak avoids addressing inquiries on Israel’s violation of international humanitarian law or responsibility for rising death toll in Palestine.

During a tense exchange with Conservative Foreign Affairs Select Committee Chair, Alicia Kearns, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak acknowledged the tragic loss of civilian lives in Gaza. However, he refrained from addressing inquiries regarding Israel’s violation of international humanitarian law or its responsibility for the escalating death toll in Palestine.
Admits the discourse with Kearns, Sunak exhibited adept familiarity with hasbara language and talking points, choosing the expression ‘Too many civilians are dying’ rather than a more explicit acknowledgment of responsibility, such as ‘Too many civilians are being killed by the munitions we provided without cost.’ This strategic use of language obscures the direct connection to the supplied weaponry of Israel by the UK, creating an impression of sudden, inexplicable deaths. Moreover, absolves the UK of any culpability.
Ms. Kearns’ line of questioning has been praised by many as far more accurate and direct than that of most mainstream journalists since the escalation of events in Palestine after October 7th. She asked why Sunak would condemn other war crimes of other nations but not the war crimes of Israel.
Israel’s breach of International Humanitarian law has been declared by Human Rights Watch, United Nations and Amnesty International.
Notably, Rishi Sunak’s family company, Infosys was found by his father in law, and is co-directed by Israeli intelligence veteran Uri Levine. He came from the infamous Unit 8200. Unit 8200 has numerous companies that are subsidiaries Individuals from this unit. Levine was appointed in April 2020.
In addition, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife has £460 million worth of shares in the company.
Furthermore, on October 29th, the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure in Israel announced the issuance of new licenses to six energy firms for the exploration of offshore natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean.
The announcement followed a week in which Israel launched airstrikes on the Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza, causing the tragic loss of numerous lives. Subsequently, the camp endured another bombardment two days later. Amidst these events, one of the bids was won by a joint consortium of British energy giant BP, Azeri national oil company SOCAR, and Israeli corporation NewMed Energy.
Although the bids were made earlier this year, the timing of the announcement was strategically chosen to cultivate investor confidence in Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
Interestingly, “Rishi Sunak’s a Wasteman!” is a chant which has been reverberated consistently across a multitude of pro-Palestinian protests in the UK this year. This illustrates a stark misalignment between a significant portion of the UK population and the government’s decision to endorse Israel amid its brutal occupation and massacre against Palestine.
It’s important to emphasise that S2J News does not endorse all of Alicia Kearns’ viewpoints regarding the ongoing genocide in Palestine.
