  • At the Munich Security Conference, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan had a need to maintain strong ties with the United States, calling it “the only superpower.”
  • A recent report breaks down the extent of US military and financial support for Israel.

At the Munich Security Conference, held from 13–18th February, Shamil Shams of Deutsche Welle (DW), Germany’s state-funded international broadcaster, sat down for an interview with Pakistan’s Defence Minister, Khawaja Asif.

During the discussion, Shams asked Asif about Pakistan’s relationship with Iran. Another particularly significant question he posed was why Pakistan chose to join Donald Trump’s ”Board of Peace.” Other Muslim majority nations who also made the same move in January were Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Jordan, Indonesia, Qatar and United Arab Emirates.

Shams posited, “US is not a very popular country (to Pakistan) domestically as far as the public is concerned, when you get so close to Washington and when Pakistan’s Prime Minister attended the board of peace in Washington, do you worry politically about the fall out?”

“We have the people in Pakistan, you know, they do understand the compulsions. The International, the diplomatic compulsions where you have to maintain relationship with the superpower. The only superpower in the world now - the United States, they are our biggest trade partners. There are so many other things we see the importance of maintaining good relations with America. The people do understand. But you are right, the man on the street or the man in Pakistan, they have an opinion because of the last 77/78 years, we have had this flirtatious relationship- up and down but there is a consistency in this relationship. We hope the consistency stays there and we can maintain a  good relationship with United States. It’s very valuable for us.”

A report released on 7th October 2025, authored by Quincy Institute fellow William D Hartung, dissects the spending channels that have fuelled Israel’s military operations. They detail the direct arms shipments to massive funding programs like Foreign Military Financing (FMF) and offshore procurement. The report concludes that Israel’s prolonged and devastating military campaign (on children) would not have been possible without US financing, weapons, and political backing.

“Given the scale of current and future spending, it is clear the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) could not have done the damage they have done in Gaza… without U.S. support,” the report states.

Further to the $21.7 billion sent directly to Israel, the US has spent another $9.65–$12.07 billion on related military operations in Yemen, Lebanon, and other regional Muslim majority countries. This pushes the total US expenditures tied to the Gaza genocide past $33 billion.

The report includes the lethal equipment the US has shipped to Israel: over $2.3 billion worth of bombs, missiles, and mines. In addition, more than 20,000 assault rifles; and thousands of guidance kits, warheads, and other offensive weapons. These particular arms have been fundamental to Israel’s aerial campaign, which has left over 73,158+ Palestinians brutally murdered – mainly women and innocent children.

This doesn’t even begin to account for the United States’ historic atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

(In relation to Pakistan giving military space to America)

These two statements made repeatedly by Imran Khan at several of his national rallies caused severe ramifications for him. Khan became a leader who would not bow down to the unjust and egregious whims and desires of America. Moreover, Jeffrey Epstein named Khan a greater threat than Erdogan, Putin and Xi Jinping. None of this is a coincidence.

Khan, 73, has been imprisoned since August 2023 and has now lost 85% vision in his right eye.
