aims to reduce high wedding costs that prevent the youth from getting married.

Effective from March 5, 2025, the Chief Imam of the Bole Traditional Area in Ghana, Alhaji Mohammed Iddrisu, has instituted a ban on lavish Islamic weddings within his jurisdiction.

In a statement released after extensive consultations with Islamic clerics, the Imam explained that the measure is intended to curb excessive wedding expenditures and reinforce traditional Islamic practices. The ban specifically targets elaborate receptions that involve multiple outfit changes by couples and the use of male beauticians to dress members of the opposite sex, aiming to eliminate practices deemed contrary to Islamic values.

"This decision aims to curb deviant practices that set high wedding costs, therefore making it difficult for many youths to get married," the statement said.

The imam has called for cooperation from all wedding planners and businesses in the industry to ensure the effective implementation of the ban.
