Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to after “violent” Islamophobic abuse was directed at a train passenger. The hate crime that took place on an Avanti West Coast service from Glasgow to London, which stops at Wigan North Western and Warrington Bank Quay along the way.
The incident occurred at around 8.20pm on October 27 last year, while the train was at Penrith railway station, passengers on board overheard distressing and threatening Islamophobic and violent rhetoric, according to the British Transport Police. Officers investigating the incident are describing it as an Islamophobic hate crime.
