• Major pro-Palestine accounts, including Bushra Sheikh, The Saviour and Hamzah (Absorber) have faced restrictions and suspensions on their respected platforms.
• Despite these restrictions, the pro-Palestine movement continues to grow in strength, with public opinion continuing to shift.
The Instagram account @eye.on.palestine, which has garnered a substantial following of 12.9 million, is one of the largest pro-Palestine platforms. In October 2023, the account gained six million followers before it was suddenly shut down. At the time, Meta cited “security concerns” as the reason for the suspension.
“These accounts were initially locked for security reasons after signs of compromise, and we’re working to make contact with the account owners to ensure they have access,” stated Meta spokesperson Andy Stone. He clarified further, “We did not disable these accounts because of any content they were sharing.”
However, this explanation raises questions. What exactly were these security concerns?
The targeting of pro-Palestine accounts remains ongoing, and recent incidents demonstrate that little has changed since last year.
Bushra Sheikh
Our sister, Bushra Sheikh, a highly respected social and political commentator who has appeared on platforms such as Talk TV, Good Morning Britain, and the BBC, experienced similar restrictions on X this week.
This, of course, does not imply that all Jews are Zionists, as demonstrated by recent protests where Jewish New Yorkers wore T-shirts bearing the message, “Not in Our Name.”
It’s important to note, Jews are an ethnicity as well as a religious group and the majority of Palestinians are Muslim. Consequently, Sheikh hasn’t said anything that isn’t factual. Moreover, in a separate post, she thanks the ‘anti Netanyahu Jewish community for their support.’
Despite what she has endured this week, she remains undeterred:
The Saviour
The Savior, another significant pro-Palestine voice, has seen its YouTube account suspended.
Hamzah (Absorber)
In addition, Brother Hamzah who courageously speaks to IDF soldiers directly to showcase their abhorrent ways and lack of humanity has had his Instagram account suspended this week. Brother Hamzah is known for conducting his conversations with the utmost calm and composure.
May Allah reward the resilience of all of the aforementioned individuals who continue to find ways to advocate for our Palestinian brothers and sisters…Ameen.
Interestingly, despite the numerous restrictions and suspensions, the pro-Palestine movement remains powerful, and public opinion has evidently shifted significantly.
